Build a Recreation Center
Wellington residents have been demanding a recreation center for years. However, the town
has done nothing in the way of exploring the feasibility or even coming up with basic plans, cost
estimates, or a location. There is no reason why we cannot begin these processes with the idea
of understanding the ramification of building a recreation center so that we have a shovel ready
project at the time we acquire the funding.

There are several paths a municipality can follow to build a recreation center, many of which do
not require raising taxes.
Here how to make it happen!

-
Budget funds in 2025 for a feasibility study. A study would cost around $50,000 and is the first step to building a center. This amount is well within our budget capacity.
-
Grow commercial business. Commercial growth generates sales and commercial property taxes that can support a recreation center.
-
Explore partnerships. Johnstown partnered with the YMCA to build their center.
-
Form a recreation district. District formation only requires intergovernmental agreements between Wellington, Larimer County, and other communities. Once formed, the recreation district can propose a property tax mill levy which, if approved by voters, will provide a sustainable funding stream to build and operate a center.
-
Leverage grants. State and federal grants can offset the cost of a feasibility study(required), as well as design and construction costs.
It's time Wellington listened to the community and provided the recreation center our resident’s demand.
